About Me:

What the critics are saying:

On I Am My Own Wife-

Bolstered by John Zuiker’s miraculous set, full of secrets and style, the show is brisk and handsome...”

        -Time Out Chicago, Benno Nelson

“John Zuiker's set -- a creamy white fold-out museum full of hidden drawers and closets (an ideal metaphor for Charlotte's life) -- is exceptional.”

        -Chicago Sun Times, Hedy Weiss

“The essential element here is the set design from the continually impressive John Zuiker, who has created a tiny but ornate room that resembles something from an old 19th-century European building. Everything is coated in a layer of white paint, and Robel, dressed in a simple black costume, literally pops from the scenery.”

        -Chicago Tribune, Nina Metz

“the set designed by John Zuiker is a masterpiece...In fact, just the set and the antiques that add to the production are worth the trip to Glenwood Avenue...”

        -SteadStyleChicago.com, Alan Bresloff

John Zuiker creates an equally breathtaking set design. Robel could deliver this story on a train platform with chilling effect but Zuiker has transformed the tiny black box of the Heartland Studio into an unfolding storybook that opens onto the fascinating world of Wright’s script.”

        -ChicagoStageReview.com, Venus Zarris

On M. Butterfly-

“Scenic designer John Zuiker pulls off a rabbit-from-a-hat trick with his set, an interplay of scrims and levels that seems to expand the narrow Heartland Studio space.”

        -Time Out Chicago, Kay Daly

“...director P. Marston Sullivan and regular BoHo set designer John Zuiker have transformed the stage into a box containing depths unforeseen.  It is an apt metaphor for the play...”

        -The Chicago Tribune, Nina Metz

On Jekyll and Hyde-

“John Zuiker’s two level set with windows and large centered double doors work nicely to expand the Theatre Building Chicago’s North stage.”

        -ChicagoCritic.com, Tom Williams

“John Zuiker's ingenious set primarily features the facade of a house with five windows that spends as much time transforming as Crouse does in the title role.”

        -Chicago Sun Times, Misha Davenport

On C.S. Lewis On Stage-

“And it assuredly delivers a warm, simple atmosphere – thanks to set designer John Zuiker, it genuinely feels like you’ve wandered into Lewis’ comforting Oxford study.”

        -The Chicago Tribune, Chris Jones

“ ...while John Zuiker's scenic design surrounds Lewis with the cozy disorder we associate with Victorian decor—photographs, knick-knacks, weighty tomes for paging through or sitting upon...”

-Windy City Times, Mary Shen Barnidge

On Side Show-

“...with John Zuiker's ingenious sets easily capturing the change of both show-biz venue and era.”

        -Chicago Sun Times, Hedy Weiss
